We would like to thank this customer for their great review and recommendation

"I made a purchase of an Accord EX-L at O'Hare Honda and the combined team of Derick, Gina, Andrew and Marc made it a very good experience. All staff were very friendly and informative, but at no time did my wife or I feel manipulated or pressured to do anything. I would have no hesitation in highly recommending this dealership."

"I would buy another car from O'Hare Honda the service was great, all the employees were as helpful as possible. The finance dept. was quick and easy. My dealer Mike was so easy going and did not push us into something we didn't want. Honda O'Hare really went the extra mile to make my husband and I very happy."

The Road in 2012, Accord-ing To Honda

2012_honda_accord_photo_2
With so many choices for sedans in 2012, the Honda Accord coupe  rules the road with either a V-4 or V-6 and better handling than most sedans or coupes on the market today.

An efficient design utilizes the 190 horse power of the four cylinder engine. You will stop every time with powerful brakes. With a strong yet sleek chassis and good control, excellent handling and small turn radius, this coupe feels like a luxury automobile.

With a petite size to accommodate all of the functionality of the Accord Coup, the leg room can be an issue for some of the taller drivers and passengers. The rear of the machine is no exception. A quick and hasty retreat is not likely for the more rotund of Drivers, or passengers.

The Accord Coupe has a smooth and responsive steering having a 4 cylinder engine at 190 horse power actually yields a spunky automobile. Seemingly identical to the sedan’s driving style, the Accord coupes and sedans are priced similarly. However, if you go for the upgrade, a spicy V-6 model with all the bells and whistles is available with more features. Both the base and the V-6 have as smooth, pleasant ride.

Don’t assume that powerful engine produces a powerful sound. Not with active noise cancellation. Active noise cancellation takes a sound wave occurring in real time, and sends a signal with exactly the same amplitude, but on an opposite phase, an anti-phase. These two waves interlock and create a new softer wave, in a process known as phase cancellation. Gas mileage is 23 miles per gallon city driving, and 32 miles per gallon on the highway, so its not only quiet, but treads softly with a small carbon footprint.

Most of the entire new interior is luxuriant and beautifully equipped. A stylish interior layout, designed for looks and ergonomics will great you as you slip behind the wheel. As always the inside is spacious as can be found, surprisingly so to those unfamiliar with Honda’s spaciousness. The driver and passengers are comfortably accommodated in a deceptively spacious interior. The trunk is a healthy size, an essential for so many purposes and tear passenger seats with plenty of comfortable leg room.

Well equipped, the Honda Accord is on par with similarly priced competitor models. One major complaint voiced by many drivers, is that blue tooth hands free is not a standard feature. In an age where people are pulled over ever day for cell phone usage, and the amount of cell phone related accidents, you would think that hands free blue tooth could even be called a safety feature. This is however a null problem for purchasers of the Honda Accord EX-L, as this feature is included. One feature is the 8 inch screen that can be used to access the rear view camera, the GPS system, a ratings system and even multimedia.

As always the Honda accord remains an absolute pleasure to drive. Accord is fantastic synthesis of utility and luxury at a reasonable price.

2012 Honda Civic Rated “Least Toxic” Vehicle In New Study

2012_honda_civic_photo_2

There’s nothing like the smell of a brand-new car, right? Actually, that the "new car" is bad for your health and that of children and pets, as it is composed of chemicals coming off the steering wheel, seats, armrests and dashboard.

A new study of toxic chemicals in new cars from the Ecology Center released on HealthyStuff.org sheds more light on the subject and it is interesting reading, to say the least. Officially, the study is called “The Consumer Action Guide to Toxic Chemicals in Cars.” Right at the outset, we’d like to point out that the best performer, or “least toxic” vehicle is the 2012 Honda Civic. More about that later.

Did you know that the average American spends more than 1.5 hours in a car every day? Over time, accumulated exposure to toxins being released in the vehicle, exacerbated by extreme heat trapped inside on hot days, may lead to health problems such as allergies, birth defects, learning impairment, liver toxicity, and cancer.

What are these chemicals? According to Jeff Gearhart, research director at the Ecology Center, the chief culprits are bromine (associated with brominated flame retardants, or BFRs), chlorine (which indicates the presence of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC and plasticizers), lead and heavy metals.

“Automobiles function as chemical reactors, creating one of the most hazardous environments we spend time in,” said Gearhart.

This year’s testing involved more than 200 new vehicles on dealer lots. Gearhart added that there’s good news for consumers in that overall vehicle ratings are improving. The best vehicles today, according to the study, have eliminated hazardous flame retardants and PVC. The study further found that 17 percent of new vehicles today have interiors completely free of PVC, while 60 percent are produced without BFRs. See the list of PVC-free vehicles here and BFR-free vehicles here.

Back to the list of top performers in this year’s testing, the 2012 Honda Civic achieved the number one spot by being free of BFRs in all interior components, utilizing PVC-free interior fabrics and interior trim, and containing low levels of heavy metals and other metal allergens.

In addition, Honda is again the top-rated automaker for healthy interiors, as it has been since 2007.

Second and third-best picks were the 2011 Toyota Prius and the 2011 Honda CR-Z. Coming in at number for was the 2011 Nissan Cube, while fifth place went to the 2012 Acura RDX.

On the other end of the spectrum, the bottom three performers, or the most toxic vehicles, were, in order, the 2011 Kia Soul, the 2011 Chrysler 200 SC, and the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.

What can consumers do to minimize exposure to these toxic chemicals in cars? Besides selecting PVC-free and BFR-free vehicles when it comes time to buy, Gearhart advises that consumers ventilate the car frequently before getting in and to use a solar shade on the windshield to help minimize the heat and solar exposure on the windows. Check out the video below for more information about this year’s testing.

Brenda, thank you for sharing your experience with us

"I bought my very first car at O' Hare Honda earlier this winter. It was a great experience! Being it was the first time to look for a car I was SO nervous, on top of that I went alone! However, my salesperson, Ernie, was so friendly and personable, it made my experience enjoyable. I purchased a 2012 Honda Civic and have seen my gas expenses shrink! All the O'Hare staff was very friendly and I almost stayed on target with my budget. I would recommend to friends, family, or you!"

All-new Honda CR-V an absolute winner

2012_honda_cr-v_photo_4
One of Honda’s bestsellers, the CRV, arrives totally redesigned for 2012. Honda’s popular compact crossover SUV’s newest reincarnation is evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, but there’s still plenty of good news for consumers. The 2012 CRV Touring boasts a lower base price ($25,990 for 2012 vs. $26,290 for 2011), more power (185 horsepower), a better fuel-economy rating (9.2/6.6 l/100 km city/hwy for 2012 vs. 10.1/7.5 for 2011), and increased shoulder room and cargo-carrying capacity despite a slightly lower roof and shorter body. But wait ... there’s more! Kudos to Honda for making heated front seats and rear-view camera standard on ALL CRVs.

With the new CRV, Honda looks well-positioned to compete for your hard-earned dollars when compared to other popular compact SUVs such as the top-rated Toyota RAV4, the fuel-sipping Chevrolet Equinox, Hyundai’s Tucson and the gorgeous Kia Sportage, to name a few.

The first early-release photos of the 2012 CRV left me cold, but this compact “sport-cute” looks handsome in the metal. The front fascia has a bolder look with a larger grille opening, and in side view two strong character lines and the “pinched” rocker panels accented with chrome trim around the side glass help visually elongate the body. Style-wise, it looks like Honda designers sent the old CRV — which had a rounder, “cute” look — away for a year’s worth of triathlon training. The result is the new CRV looks better than ever — leaner, more muscular and more “buff.”

Inside, the CRV is very well designed with features you use every day. My favourite feature is the astonishing simplicity required to lower the second-row seat. The tailgate unlocks via a touch switch under the hatch handle; pulling one of the spring-loaded releases (near the tailgate) pops up that side’s seat cushion, lowers the head restraint, and folds down the seat back. Presto! You have a nearly flat cargo hold. This must be an industry benchmark for ease of use. Converting the CRV from a people hauler to cargo carrier is dead simple. A child can do it with ease.

Hondas typically have really well-designed ergonomics, focusing on the driver, and happily the 2012 CRV doesn’t disappoint. Front seat foldable armrests are positioned perfectly so the driver can perch his or her right elbow while grasping the leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The instrument cluster features a design similar to the high-tech CRZ sport hybrid coupe. A round speedometer is the instrument panel’s centrepiece, but it’s a three-dimensional affair of “stacked” discs instead of a flat cluster. To help Eco-warriors eke out that last kilometre per mL of fuel, Honda has cleverly integrated coloured lights that trim the speedometer — green to show the vehicle is operating in the most economic/environmentally responsible way and white to show it’s not. An “Econ” button on the left side of the dash enables the driver to switch to a fuel-saving mode that is claimed to further reduce fuel consumption.

In customary Honda fashion, all the radio, HVAC and navigation system controls are large, legible and intuitive. It doesn’t take long to quickly familiarize oneself with the main controls. While the CRV is a marvel of clever packaging and arguably among the most user-friendly when it comes to ferrying active, busy families, my sole complaint is the absence of a power tailgate opener (perhaps too much to expect in this price segment.)

The CRV Touring has some desirable standard features, such as the standard (on all models) rear camera (which has three switchable views, wide angle, normal and beneath bumper); a retractable “conversation” mirror (to allow front seat occupants to monitor kids in the back).

For back-seat passengers, there’s plenty of headroom and legroom for normal-sized adults, and the flat floor (there is no “hump” to accommodate a driveshaft or exhaust system) contributes to the sense of roominess.

On the road, the CRV’s 2.4-litre, four-cylinder engine is a solid performer. Mated to “only” a five-speed automatic transmission (competitors such as the Chev Equinox and Hyundai Tucson have six speeds), shifts are seamlessly smooth and quick. Most buyers will be happy with the CRV’s power and its near-class-leading fuel-economy rating, but drivers craving more power should view the compact SUV-class hotrod Toyota RAV4 equipped with the optional 269 horsepower 3.5-litre V-6.

While Honda may be criticized for taking the conservative route in redesigning the 2012 CRV, the newest compact SUV on the block is an absolute winner. A lower base price, improved fuel economy, excellent list of standard features with legendary Honda-build quality, reliability and resale value earn the 2012 CRV a “highly recommended” rating.

Honda Moves Up Civic Update

2012_honda_civic_update
Honda is accelerating its plans to update the Civic, Automotive News is reporting. Although it's selling pretty well, Honda's redesigned-for-2012 Civic has been panned by critics, tarnishing the brand image of this perennial compact-class benchmark.

Earlier reports suggested that Honda was planning a midcycle refresh sometime in 2013, but Honda officials at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in Las Vegas announced that an updated Civic will come out this fall, just 18 months after the new one debuted.

With the 2012 redesign, the Civic got fresh styling, a new specific high-fuel-economy model and, many argue, a cheaper interior and overall feel. It sounds like Honda's update to the Civic will address those faults. Details haven't been released, but Honda has said the changes will be "significant."
