An all-new Honda Ridgeline pickup truck will come to market in less
than two years and, today, Honda shared a sketch expressing the new
truck's styling direction. Honda also confirmed that production of the
current Ridgeline, built exclusively by Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC, in Lincoln, Alabama, will conclude in mid-2014.
Like the innovative first-generation model that earned 2006 North American Truck of the Year and Motor Trend
Truck of the Year honors after its fall 2005 debut, the next-gen
Ridgeline is being designed and developed by Honda R&D Americas,
Inc. at its Los Angeles and Ohio R&D centers.
The Honda Ridgeline broke new ground in the American pickup market
with its unique design featuring a spacious five-passenger cabin, smooth
ride and handling, and half-ton truck capability. The first truck of
its kind to be built on a closed-box unibody platform, the Ridgeline
introduced innovative new features to the pickup segment, such as its
large In-Bed Trunk® and dual-action tailgate.
"The next generation Ridgeline will build on Honda's role in creating
new value with a new take on advancing form and function in the truck
segment," said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president of automobile
operations for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "With a clear path
forward, Ridgeline will play an even more important role in our future
product portfolio and strengthen an already class-leading lineup of
light trucks."
Sales of Ridgeline have enjoyed strong momentum in 2013, strengthened
recently by the introduction of a new top-of-the-line Special Edition
model for 2014, with sales totaling 16,160 units through the first 11
months of the year, an increase of 29 percent.

Honda Joins Vehicle-to-Grid Technology Demonstration Project in Partnership with University of Delaware and NRG Energy
Honda has joined a demonstration project for experimental
vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology aimed at providing a potentially
valuable energy storage resource to the nation's electrical grid while
providing for more cost-effective ownership of plug-in electric
vehicles.
The Honda technology builds off of the research conducted by the University of Delaware and now supported by NRG Energy, Inc. NRG and the University of Delaware, through their eV2g joint venture, came online early in 2013 with the world's first revenue-generating vehicle-to-grid project, demonstrating the controls, regulatory requirements, and market participation rules for selling energy storage from vehicles into the PJM Interconnection Regulation Market. Honda is supplying an Accord Plug-In Hybrid with added V2G capabilities to the University's Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus to jointly investigate the potential of this technology to benefit the electrical grid, vehicle owners and society.
Using smart grid technology, the V2G system is able to monitor the status of the grid to determine whether the grid requires additional power sources that can respond rapidly, or the grid requires power demands that can absorb transitional power supply. Such a system has the potential to reduce or eliminate the fluctuation of the grid, which can occur more frequently when renewable energy sources are introduced to the grid. Electric vehicle owners potentially benefit from supporting a more stable power grid, which can lead to reduced utility costs for the vehicle owner.
The Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid demonstration vehicle is equipped with a bi-directional on-board charger, which allows the vehicle propulsion battery to both charge from and discharge to the electrical grid. With an additional communication device, the vehicle receives signals from a grid operator via a charging station, and controls charge and discharge in accordance with the signals. When electric power is requested by the grid, the vehicle will discharge power from its battery. When the grid power supply exceeds demand, the vehicle proactively charges its battery.

Honda Accord Named "2014 Green Car of the Year" by Green Car Journal
The 2014 Honda Accord, America's top-selling car with retail car customers, has been named the "2014 Green Car of the Year®" by Green Car Journal.
The award recognizes the class-leading environmental performance of the
Accord family of vehicles, including the fuel-efficient and low
emissions Accord 4-cylinder and V-6 Coupe and Sedan, the EPA-rated 50
mpg city Accord Hybrid and the EPA-rated 115 MPGe combined Accord
Plug-in Hybrid.
"Led by the 2014 Accord Hybrid, the entire Accord lineup really embodies the promise of the Honda brand to deliver both fun-to-drive enjoyment and outstanding fuel efficiency at the highest level," said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of Automobile Operations at American Honda. "I want to say thank you to Green Car Journal, not just for honoring Accord, but for shining a spotlight on the environment and our shared vision for an ultra-low carbon future."
2014 Green Car of the Year® jurorsselected the Accord as the winning model for many reasons, not the least of which is its ability to offer an efficient choice for a wide range of buyers, from those seeking better fuel efficiency in a conventionally powered model to those desiring the milestone efficiency of a world-class hybrid or plug-in hybrid. In addition to the "Green Car of the Year" honor, the Accord was earlier honored as one of Green Car Journal's 'Top 5 Green Cars for 2014' and additionally earned the magazine's 'Green Car Product of Excellence' distinction.
"With its efficient internal combustion, hybrid, and plug-in choices, the 2014 Honda Accord delivers exactly what consumers are looking for today," said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com. "It all comes together this year for the Accord in ways that speak to significant environmental performance built into a mainstream, volume model that's a joy to drive. The Accord is a deserving winner of Green Car Journal's 2014 Green Car of the Year."
The 2014 Accord is the second Honda brand vehicle named as "Green Car of the Year" in the past three years, joining the 2012 Civic Natural Gas, which netted the distinction in 2011.
2014 Honda Accord
The 2014 Accord lineup features Honda's innovative Earth Dreams™ Technology powertrains, including Honda's next-generation 2.4-liter, direct-injected 4-cylinder engine with continuously variable transmission or 6-speed manual transmission. The Accord Plug-In, with an 115 MPGe combined EPA fuel-economy rating, and the Accord Hybrid Sedan, with a class-leading 50 mpg EPA city fuel-economy rating, are powered an all-new highly efficient Atkinson cycle engine and two-motor hybrid system. Fuel efficiency is the best ever for Accord in the EPA Midsize class, with 4-cylinder models earning a 36 mpg highway EPA rating and the V-6 models garnering a 34 mpg highway EPA rating.
In addition to fuel economy ratings leadership, the Accord has continually led the industry in meeting strict emissions standards. The Accord Plug-In is the first vehicle to achieve SULEV 20 emissions standards, with the lowest tailpipe emissions of any ICE vehicle currently available. Additionally the Accord was the first vehicle to meet ULEV (1998) and SULEV (2000) emissions standards.
Accord was the most popular midsize passenger car in America through September of 2013, based on sales to individual (non-fleet) car buyers, according to new vehicle registration data from R.L. Polk.
Come test drive an Accord today at AutoNation Honda O'Hare and be sure to check us out on Facebook and Twitter for further news and updates.

2014 Honda Civic Coupe Ignites Opening Day of 2013 SEMA Show
A significantly updated 2014 Honda Civic Coupe made its world debut today at the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market
Association (SEMA) Show, offering a first look at new exterior styling
updates to America's best-selling compact car. Honda also
announced that the performance-oriented Civic Si will benefit from
increased power and larger wheels and tires, making both the two- and
four-door varieties even more fun to drive.
Honda also surprised performance enthusiasts by announcing plans to begin sales of street-oriented performance parts developed by Honda Performance Development, Inc. (HPD), Honda's U.S.-based race engineering company, starting with a full range of performance accessories for the CR-Z sport hybrid coupe that go on-sale at Honda dealerships today. A power-boosting CR-Z supercharger package will follow in the spring of 2014. In the longer term, HPD engineers are also investigating other models and platforms in order to expand Honda's street performance product line.
"With the further advancement of the 2014 Civic Coupe and Si models and an exciting path forward for performance parts drawing on our racing experience we are making a statement about our commitment to the fun to drive character of the Honda brand", said John Mendel, executive vice president auto sales for American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
The 2014 Civic Coupe and Coupe Si
Following a major refresh of Civic Sedan styling for 2013, Honda turns its attention to the Civic Coupe and Coupe Si, implementing a host of exterior design changes that include a more aggressive grille, hood, front fenders and headlight design. Additional Coupe exterior changes include new taillight lenses, sportier front and rear bumpers, new side mirrors and new wheel designs.
The Civic Si Coupe benefits from the same styling enhancements as the standard Civic Coupe but adds Si-exclusive design cues, including a unique lower front bumper garnish, larger rear decklid spoiler, a distinctive front spoiler and sporty rear air diffuser. The Civic Si Sedan picks up on these same cues, and both the Si Coupe and Si Sedan get larger, 18-inch (+1 inch) wheels and tires with new wheel designs.
The performance-tuned Civic Si Coupe and Si Sedan also get a retuned exhaust system that helps boost peak output to 205 horsepower (+4 horsepower) and 174 lb-ft of torque (+4 ft-lb).
More details about the full 2014 Civic lineup will be made available at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.
Civics on Display
On display at Honda's SEMA showcase are a 2014 Civic Si Coupe, a 2014 Civic Coupe EX-L equipped with a Honda Genuine Accessories aero kit and 18-inch wheels, the HPD Civic Si Coupe Race Car and the HPD Civic Street Performance Concept, an aggressive street performance concept featuring many HPD racing parts that currently only are available for sanctioned race cars.

Honda Initiates 'Start Something Special' Conversations Online
In August, Honda introduced the "Start Something Special" tag line
throughout the brand's advertising to communicate the special
relationship people have with their Hondas. To socialize the new tag
line across platforms, Honda is celebrating the special stories fans
have with their Hondas and facilitating conversation across social media
using the #StartSomething hashtag.
"We invite everyone to tell us how they can #StartSomething special every day. We'll be listening, watching and celebrating with our fans and owners across social media," said Michael Accavitti, Senior Vice President of Automobile Operations at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "These stories will become the next chapter of our vibrant digital scrapbook that shows what Honda means to our customers' and fans' lives and evolves our 'Honda Loves You Back' efforts—feel-good surprises we've orchestrated over the past few years to show gratitude to those who have expressed love for the brand."
To launch "Start Something Special" in social media, Honda showed some special appreciation
to a soon-to-be-married couple because of their long family history of
Honda loyalty—together they have owned 20 Hondas. The couple, Mairead
and Kevin, asked their local Honda dealer to loan three black CR-Vs for
bridal-party participation. Little did they realize that Honda had
something much bigger planned.
Having been told that their story might be used in Honda marketing, the video opens with Mairead talking about how she met Kevin and her family's loyalty to Honda. The video then segues to Honda's special plans for the couple following their ceremony (a couple key family insiders helped the brand make things extra meaningful for the couple). The couple steps outside the church and sees eight black CR-Vs parked. Mairead and Kevin stand in awe as each CR-V reveals personalized, unexpected delights such as the band they heard on their first date playing a song, Irish step dancers and gifts from their registry delivered by relatives from Ireland.
The #StartSomething conversation will carry on across Honda's social platforms, including Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter and Vine, where fans will be encouraged to share their stories with Honda. All stories will be collected at hondastories.com.
National Brand TV
To spread "Start Something Special" to a broad audience, Honda is launching two national brand TV spots, beginning with "Thank You" that breaks 10/29. A collection of photographs and video of families and fans show their appreciation of the Honda brand. A voice-over says, "Thank you all for making your Honda more than a car. Thanks for making them something special." The spots will air on the NHL network and during NFL games.

Honda Performance Development To Offer Kid Kart Engines
Honda Performance Development, the racing arm of American Honda Motor
Co., Inc., is expanding its range of karting products with the
introduction of a new Kid Kart engine designed to improve quality,
reliability and balanced performance at a low cost to the competitor.
The Honda GXH50, available to racers, retail shops and series through the Honda Racing Line, is an effort by HPD to address issues that have negatively affected the growth of Kid Karting in recent years, and help the entry-level category return to popularity.
"Kid Karting is one of the earliest forms of motorsport available to youth with an interest in racing," said Marc Sours, senior manager of HPD's Commercial Division. "One of the goals of the Honda Racing Line is to support these novice racers. Through our Kid Kart engine program, we hope to make it easier for these young racers and their families to discover the fun of our sport."
Originally intended as a way for families and their children – typically between five and seven years old – to gain an introduction to karting, the Kid Kart class in recent seasons has been negatively impacted by high engine costs and a lack of control over the current engine platform.
Following requests from the marketplace, HPD offers the Honda GXH50, and subsequent HPD installation kit, as a replacement engine for the Kid Kart class. With the new engine package, HPD seeks to assist sanctioning bodies and participants in rebuilding the category, lowering operating costs while bringing traditional Honda reliability and quality to Kid Karting.
The GXH50 Kid Kart engine will come factory-sealed from HPD to eliminate "blueprinting" of the engine. HPD's support will include a rules package designed to maintain the integrity of the program. Engines will not be re-sealable, and will come with an HPD-spec clutch, engine mount, chain guard and hardware.
Engine life is expected to be well in excess of 200 hours, and the HPD GXH50 is intended to provide both lower maintenance costs and better engine parity than other currently available engines. Retail price of a complete GXH50 will be $829, and both race shop and series inquiries are welcome. Through the Honda Racing Line, karters and other racers can arrange direct, door-to-door delivery of parts and complete engines.
Check out O'Hare Honda, and be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for further news and updates.

Honda's Project Drive-In Increases Support of Threatened Theaters: Delivery of Digital Projectors Raised to Nine
Based on the overwhelming response from fans and communities across the country for Project Drive-In,
Honda is adding four more digital projectors to its national effort to
save drive-ins facing closure due to the end of 35mm film distribution.
This brings to nine the total number of drive-in theaters aided by the
program. Voters can continue to visit www.projectdrivein.com
to help determine which of the remaining 116 participating drive-ins,
will be awarded one of the four additional digital projectors.
The four additional winning theaters will be announced on Sept. 23. Christie Digital Systems USA, the largest manufacturer of DLP Cinema® projectors, supplied of the all projectors for Project Drive-In and contributed two of the four additional projectors for this renewed effort at no added cost to Honda's program.
Thanks to the more than two million votes already received at projectdrivein.com five drive-in theaters (in alphabetical order)—99W Drive-In (Newberg, Ore.), Cherry Bowl Drive-In (Honor, Mich.), Graham Drive-In (Graham, Texas), McHenry Outdoor Theater (McHenry, Ill.) and Saco Drive-In (Saco, Maine)—will receive a digital projector donated by the automaker.
As 35mm film distribution comes to a close at the end of this year, hundreds of additional drive-in theaters risk potential closure because of the costly switch to digital projection, estimated at $75,000+ per screen. Project Drive-In launched on Aug. 9 by Honda to raise community awareness of the plight of drive-ins, award digital projectors to drive-ins and to provide simple ways for people to get involved in an effort to ensure that this historic part of American cinema and car culture continues to lives on.

Honda Demonstrates Advanced Vehicle-to-Pedestrian and Vehicle-to-Motorcycle Safety Technologies
Honda demonstrated two experimental safety technologies aimed at reducing the potential for collisions between automobiles and pedestrians and between automobiles and motorcycles last week.
These advanced Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) and Vehicle-to-Motorcycle (V2M) technologies, while still in the research and testing phase, demonstrate Honda's vision to advance safety for all road users, including pedestrians and motorcycle riders, as well as automobile occupants. These new technologies are part of a comprehensive effort being undertaken by Honda to develop leading-edge safety and driver assistive systems that can help predict and avoid traffic accidents through advanced sensing and communications technologies.

Project Drive-In: Help Honda Save an American Icon
Time is running out for the drive-in. That is, unless somebody takes a stand. And that's exactly what Honda is attempting to do.
In less than 3 months, the majority of American drive-in theaters will face closure with the movie industry’s switch from film to digital. Upgrading to digital projection costs roughly $80,000.
Honda wants to preserve this iconic part of American car culture.
Another reason that drive-in theaters are in decline is because of property value. A good sized chunk of land within city limits will generate more revenue being sold as residential or commercial property than being used as a drive-in theater.
Honda has a plan. First, it is raising community awareness. The idea is that people will be more likely to visit the drive-in if they understand that they may not have the choice within a few years.
Second, Honda is donating at least five digital projectors to drive-in theaters around the country. And you have the chance to vote for your local drive-in to receive one.
Let's work together to preserve this nostalgic piece of automotive history!
Help #SaveTheDriveIn by visiting www.projectdrivein.com to vote for your drive-in of choice, and check out the video below to learn more about the project. Also, follow along with the cause on the O'Hare Honda Facebook page!

Maintenance Tip
The
summertime is notorious for sudden, violent thunderstorms. When buckets
of water are beating against your windshield, you need wipers that
really work. Even more so at night, when a rain storm can decrease
visibility to 15 or 20 feet in front of your vehicle.

"We had a great experience at this dealership. The sales person did not hurry as and was accommodating for our time and questions. Compared to other dealerships the sales person knew a lot more about the vehicle and took his time to explain things. Vehicle was delivered on time and our calls were returned appropriately. The dealership did not push us for the sales."

"Even though the dealership was busy, we were able to get the wonderful assistance of a salesperson named Ziggy. He was very friendly and helpful every step of the way. He carefully explained all the features of the vehicle we were interested in (Civic). We went for a test drive and were quite impressed with the car. That was followed up by a great deal on the vehicle with extremely low financing too."

"I love this dealership. It is my second experience with them and it does not disappoint. Mary is delightlful. She is business like, but friendly and able to sit and converse about things as she keeps things moving along. I was very glad to see that there are women salespeople there.
And the car that we discussed is everything she said it would be. .in addtion to her instructing me, showing me all its benefits, as well as (due to my time constraints today) being willing to go over things with me again later in the week."
